New York Schools Excel at the TOC

LEXINGTON, Kentucky—A number of New York schools distinguished themselves at this year’s National High School Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky.

In Congressional Debate, Stuyvesant High School’s Joseph Puma reached the final round and Fordham Preparatory School’s Nick D’Angelo reached the semifinal round.

In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Scarsdale High School’s Eric Thurm reached the octafinal round.

Several other New York debaters also qualified to compete at this year’s TOC. These debaters included Berkeley Carroll School’s Dylan Scher, the Bronx High School of Science’s Carolyn Clendenin, Bobby Esnard, and Matt Ross; Hunter College High School’s Isabel Patkowski; Monticello High School’s Dan Cook; Niskayuna High School’s Archith Murali; and Scarsdale High School’s Jonathon Bowyer.

In Policy Debate, the Bronx High School of Science’s Andrew Markoff and Zack Elias reached the quarterfinal round.

The Beacon School’s team of Damiyr Davis and Miguel Feliciano also qualified to this year’s TOC.

In Public Forum Debate, Regis High School’s Mark Andriola and Joseph Eddy advanced to the quarterfinal round. Hunter College High School’s Cara Eckholm and Ted Mateoc reached the octafinal round.

Several other New York teams also qualified to compete at this year’s TOC. These teams included the Bronx High School of Science’s team of Thomas Lloyd and Katie Wong; the Dalton School’s team of Ivo Crnkovic-Rubsamen and Jake Davidson and team of Oliver Simon and Ryan Sit; Regis High School’s team of Joe Cammarosano and Kyle Conlee, team of Patrick Cooney and John O’Brien, team of Brian Cronin and Shane Regan, team of Matt Haynes and Matt McNierney, and team of Chris Landry and Shane Mangin.
