Scarsdale Wins NYSFL Tournament

MINEOLA—Several member schools of the New York State Debate Coaches Association placed highly at the New York State Forensic League Grand Championship Tournament, which was held on Long Island in Mineola on April 24 and 25, 2010.

As additional schools join the New York State Debate Coaches Association, we look forward to celebrating their successes here on the NYSDCA web site.

The Beacon School received top school honors in Policy Debate at the NYSFL Tournament, besting competition from across the state. Congratulations to Beacon and to coach Harry Feder on this accomplishment! Beacon’s Ivy Gluck and Yasmine Flodin-Ali advanced to the final round in the varsity division.

The Bronx High School of Science’s team of Daniel Fabrizio and Aidan McKeever and team of Abla Belhachmi and Anastasia Kazteridis advanced to the final rounds of, respectively, the junior varsity and novice divisions in Policy Debate. Congratulations to Bronx Science and coach Jon Cruz on this accomplishment.

In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Scarsdale High School’s Jonathon Bowyer and Alon Daks closed out the final round of the varsity division in Lincoln-Douglas Debate to share the NYSFL title. Congratulations to both debaters and to coach Joe Vaughan!  (Daks, Vaughan, and Bowyer are pictured above.) The Bronx High School of Science’s Shai Szulanski advanced to the final round of the novice division in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Beacon’s Carol Cuello and Isabel Reade placed second in the novice division.
